Too sordid for a mass audience

According to a notebook entry, Juno and the Mouseman is the first book in the trilogy. The notebook records the following description:

Extract 1 – Blood and Bodies

Juno Jones was a determined young woman. She was also resourceful, imaginative, and usually able to get what she wanted, especially from susceptible men. Which is why she sat with PC 165307, otherwise known as Stephen Gresty, in the lounge bar of The Raging Cow one sultry night in July. She knew he thought of it as a date, especially as it was a Saturday, and she was willing to play along. But for Juno, it was strictly business.

Not wanting to disillusion him, she let him chat for half an hour about his mum’s recent hip operation, the forthcoming football season and his plans to join the CID before she asked the crucial question.

“So, Steve, what’s this tip you’ve got?”

He downed his pint before he answered.
